Last week Genus team members attended a workshop on ARTPLACE AMERICA’s National Creative Placemaking Fund program at the Des Moines Social Club. This competitive grant program provides funding and guidance to arts and culture planning and development projects that seek to strengthen the social, physical, and economic fabric of communities. If you are interested in incorporating creative place making strategies in your community, please contact us.
The design team, led by Genus Landscape Architects, received approval from the City of Iowa City to move forward on the next phases of design for a major renovation of the Pedestrian Mall in downtown Iowa City. Improvements will include utility upgrades, functional and accent lighting updates, new paving, as well as a permanent stage canopy and performance area. Construction is expected to begin in 2018.
Genus is always looking for ways to improve our understanding of the built environment. Our most recent learning experience included a trip to one of our projects currently under construction for some hands on learning.
