The Raccoon River Park playground is designed to be an all-inclusive, destination play space located in the heart of the 631-acre regional park, Raccoon River Park. The project replaces the existing playground with an emphasis on the latest universal design principles to create a fun, unique, accessible, and challenging play environment.

Led by Genus, a team of consultants performed site inventory of the project area to make an informed proposal on play area locations based on strategic views and proximity to surrounding amenities to enhance play experience. The playground offers seven different play ‘zones’ each possessing a different type of play that caters towards ability levels and play concepts. Special attention was given to the selection of each play component and surface material to further the project’s mission of implementing universal design principles.
