EAST VILLAGE BIKE RACK
small + beautiful
There is a common notion among most citizens of Central Iowa, that while a person will always have a great time in the East Village, each visit will never be exactly the same. This dynamic, creative spirit, which respects the neighborhood’s rich history and looks excitedly at its future, is the heart and soul of the East Village and the inspiration for ev, the bike rack developed by Genus for the 2006 Rack-n-Roll competition.
ev supports the established identity of East Village, while reinforcing the neighborhood’s sense of community. It is fun, funky and somewhat abstract. Even if a person understands the “e” and “v” the first or second time they observe the bike rack, as the time of day changes, the seasons progress, and the materials with which ev is fabricated mature, the rack will continually pique interest. Copper wire wraps the steel tubing to strengthen the presence of the letters and as intended, has developed a patina, growing more beautiful over time.
