As a designer, Scot is dedicated to an understanding of the unique qualities of a site and thoughtful design solutions that express the true ecological and cultural spirit of a place. He is particularly interested in issues of craft, the role of materials in placemaking, and the transition from paper, to plan, to built work. Prior to receiving his Master of Landscape Architecture from Iowa State University, Scot worked in the design-build, landscape maintenence and construction fields in both the Pacific Northwest and Midwest. He has a strong personal and professional interest in stone as material, dry stone masonry, native plants, and trees. He has spent time in the tree care industry and is an ISA Certified Arborist.

Scot spent 5 years as a lecturer for Iowa State University’s Department of Landscape Architecture with a teaching focus on site assessment, planning, construction, native plant communites, and ecological design. He also participated for two years as an instructor for Savanna Studio, the department’s traveling foundational studies program. Scot lives in Ames and enjoys time with family, playing Frisbee with his red heeler, the outdoors, and working on his vintage car, house, and motorcycle.
